About the Author
Scott DeVeaux is a nationally recognized jazz scholar whose 1997 book The Birth of Bebop: A Social and Musical History won the American Book Award, an ASCAP–Deems Taylor Award, the Otto Kinkeldey Award from the American Musicological Society, and the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Sound Research. He has taught jazz history at the University of Virginia for more than 25 years.

Gary Giddins is the Executive Director of the Leon Levy Center for Biography at the City University of New York. He was the Village Voice jazz columnist for over 30 years and remains a preeminent jazz critic who received the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award, and the Bell Atlantic Award for Visions of Jazz: The First Century in 1998. His other books include Bing Crosby: A Pocketful of Dreams: The Early Years, 1903–1940, which won the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award and the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Sound Research; Weatherbird: Jazz at the Dawn of Its Second Century; Faces in the Crowd; Natural Selection; Warning Shadows; and biographies of Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker. About the Author

Elizabeth A. Gordon, Ph.D., MBA

Elizabeth A. Gordon is an associate professor of accounting at the Fox Business School at Temple University, and Merves Research Fellow. She received her Doctorate from Columbia University, Master's in Business Administration from Yale University, and Bachelor's of Science in Accounting with highest distinction from Indiana University.

 

Dr. Gordon specializes in the areas of international financial reporting and corporate governance. Her research is published in top journals including the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, and The Accounting Review. She serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of International Accounting Research, The International Journal of Accounting, and the Accounting Research Journal. She is an ex officio member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research.

 

Dr. Gordon has taught courses in financial accounting and international accounting at the graduate and undergraduate levels, receiving a number of teaching awards. She has co-authored accounting readings for the CFA Institute, integrating IFRS and U.S. GAAP. She was an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP and interned at the Office of Management and Budget before entering academia. Dr. Gordon was licensed as a CPA in Maryland. She has been on the faculty of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, the Rutgers Business School, and a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Jana S. Raedy, Ph.D., CPA

Jana Raedy is an associate professor of accounting, associate dean of the Master of Accounting Program, and the Ernst & Young Scholar in Accounting at the Kenan-Flager Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She received her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Kentucky and her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University.

 

Dr. Raedy’s research is primarily focused on issues in international financial reporting as well as areas where financial reporting and taxation intersect. Her research is published in top journals such as Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research and Journal of the American Taxation Association.

 

Dr. Raedy has taught a number of courses in financial reporting at the graduate level, including core financial reporting (both introductory and intermediate accounting), international financial reporting, and forensic accounting. For over fifteen years she has been teaching a self-developed course in applied financial accounting research with a heavy emphasis on judgment and decision making.  During her academic career, she has received a number of different teaching awards. She currently is a team member on the Ernst & Young Academic Resource Center, which provides faculty nationwide with comprehensive teaching materials for the integration of IFRS into the accounting curriculum.

 

Alexander J. Sannella, Ph.D., CPA 

Alexander J. Sannella is currently an associate professor of accounting at the Rutgers Business School, the director of the MBA in Professional Accounting Program, and the director of the Rutgers Business School Teaching Excellence Center. He received his Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from New York University, and is a New York State Certified Public Accountant. 

 

During his years at Rutgers Business School, he has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and served as associate dean of the Business School and coordinator of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems. Previously, Dr. Sannella served on the faculty of New York University as an instructor of accounting at the Stern School of Business.

 

He has public accounting experience as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP and KPMG, LLP. Dr. Sannella was also an independent consultant working on many projects with other public accounting firms, bankruptcy trustees, and leasing divisions of major insurance companies. He also served as a consultant to the Line of Business Program at Federal Trade Commission in Washington.

 

Dr. Sannella has over 40 years teaching experience at the university level and over 30 years experience in developing and teaching commercial and investment bank training programs. His clients included eight major investment banks and four of the world's largest commercial banks. His training programs include courses designed to train financial analysts and associates, and special programs for sales and trading professionals. 

 

He is the author of many scholarly journal articles and two books. His articles focus on market-based accounting research. This research genre examines the impact on financial markets and stock prices caused by the release of accounting information and changes in accounting methods. Dr. Sannella's books focus on the effects of accounting alternatives on the judgment of analysts and other statement users. Many of the books’ topics are included on training videos and CPE courses distributed by SmartPros, Ltd.

 

He has been interviewed by several publications including the Newark Star Ledger and NJ Biz.

About the Author
Roger Pierangelo is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education and Literacy at Long Island University. He has been an administrator of special education programs and served for eighteen years as a permanent member of Committees on Special Education. He has over thirty years of experience in the public school system as a general education classroom teacher and school psychologist, and is a consultant to numerous private and public schools, PTAs, and SEPTA groups. Pierangelo has also been an evaluator for the New York State Office of Vocational and Rehabilitative Services and a director of a private clinic. He is a New York State licensed clinical psychologist, certified school psychologist, and a Board Certified Diplomate Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychology and Forensic Psychology. Pierangelo is currently president of The National Association of Special Education Teachers, executive director of The American Academy of Special Education Professionals, and vice-president of The National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education.

Pierangelo earned his BS degree from St. John's University, his MS from Queens College, Professional Diploma from Queens College, PhD from Yeshiva University, and Diplomate Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychology and Forensic Psychology from the International College of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, New York State Psychological Association, Nassau County Psychological Association, New York State Union of Teachers, and Phi Delta Kappa.

Pierangelo is the coauthor of numerous books, including The Big Book of Special Education Resources and The Step-by-Step Book Series for Special Educators.

George Giuliani is an assistant professor at Hofstra University's School of Education and Allied Health and Human Services, in the Department of Counseling, Research, Special Education, and Rehabilitation. He is the executive director of the National Association of Special Education Professionals, president of the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE), vice-president of the National Association of Special Education Teachers, and an educational consultant for various school districts. He has provided numerous workshops for parents and teachers on a variety of special education and psychological topics.

Giuliani earned Board Certification as a Diplomate Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychology and Forensic Psychology from the International College of Professional Psychology. Giuliani is also a New York State licensed psychologist, certified school psychologist, and has an extensive private practice focusing on children with special needs. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, New York State Psychological Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, Suffolk County Psychological Association, Psi Chi, American Association of University Professors, and the Council for Exceptional Children. Giuliani earned his BA from the College of the Holy Cross, MS from St. John's University, JD from City University Law School, and PsyD from Rutgers University, The Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.

About the Author
Arseny Alexandrovich Tarkovsky was born in the Ukrainian city of Elisavetgrad (now Kirovohrad) in 1907 and moved to Moscow in 1923, working as a newspaper journalist and publishing his first poems. By the late 1930s, he had become a noted translator of Turkmen, Georgian, Armenian, Arabic, and other Asian poets. During the Second World War, he served as a war correspondent for the Soviet Army publication Battle Alarm from 1942 to 1944, receiving the Order of the Red Star for valor. Tarkovsky's first volume of his own poems, Before the Snow, emerged in 1962, when the poet was 55, and rapidly sold out. His fame widened when his son, the internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, included some of his father's poems in his films. He died in 1989, just before the Soviet Union fell.

Philip Metres is the author or translator of a number of books and chapbooks including SAND OPERA (Alice James Books, 2015), COMPLEAT CATALOGUE OF COMEDIC NOVELTIES: POETIC TEXTS OF LEV RUBINSTEIN (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2014), A Concordance of Leaves (Diode Press, 2013), abu ghraib arias (Flying Guillotine Press, 2011), TO SEE THE EARTH (Cleveland State University Poetry Center, 2008), and Behind the Lines: War Resistance Poetry on the American Homefront Since 1941 (University of Iowa Press, 2007). His work has garnered two NEA fellowships, the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, five Ohio Arts Council Grants, the Beatrice Hawley Award, two Arab American Book Awards, the Cleveland Arts Prize, the Anne Halley Prize, the PEN/Heim Translation grant, a Russian Institute for Literary Translation grant, and the Creative Workforce Fellowship. He is a professor of English at John Carroll University in Cleveland.

Dimitri Psurtsev, a Russian poet and translator of British and American authors, is a professor at Moscow State Linguistic University and lives outside Moscow with his wife Natalia and daughter Anna. His two books of poetry, Ex Roma Tertia and Tengiz Notepad, were published in 2001 by Yelena Pakhomova Press and translations of his poems were published by the Hudson Review in 2009 and 2011. In 2014 Dimitri received, along with Philip Metres, a PEN/Heim Translation Fund grant for I BURNED AT THE FEAST: SELECTED POEMS OF ARSENY TARKOVSKY.
